Twitch will try to keep Prime subscribers by offering more exclusive Fortnite loot
Chances are that if you’re playing Fortnite and looking for a way to receive exclusive items and loot, you’ve probably already signed up for Twitch Prime.
Twitch Prime is a Twitch subscription that comes packaged with Amazon Prime. The service is branded as one of Twitch’s more prestigious offerings, offering free games and in-game loot to subscribers every month. Twitch Prime has also become a hot topic for the Twitch community in the wake of Fortnite, and the unprecedented success of some major Twitch streamers.
As streamers like Tyler “Ninja” Blevins amass hundreds of thousands of subscribers, partly thanks to new Twitch Prime members, people are wondering whether it’s a sustainable model. How will Twitch keep people subscribed if an audience of players are only joining Twitch Prime to get free Fortnite loot?
The answer is, unsurprisingly, to keep offering Fortnite items.
“Starting Thursday 3/29, we’re adding the Exclusive Battle Royale Instigator Pickaxe! And, to sweeten the pot, stay tuned in the coming weeks as we reveal even more Fortnite loot for Twitch Prime members,” a Twitch said in a blog post.
The incentive for people to continue using Twitch Prime to get Fortnite swag seems pretty clear, and is something the Fortnite community is picking up on. One Fortnite player on Reddit said Twitch will probably “be adding more skins in future since people used [their] 30 day trial.”
Twitch Prime is instrumental in the success of some top streamers today, the most obvious of which is Blevins. Blevins told CNBC that Epic and Twitch’s Fortnite offerings through Prime played a big role in his recent success, although he’s said in the past that he hasn’t manipulated or participated in fraudulent subscriber behavior. Fortnite is really just that big.
